Happy St Patrick's Day: An Easy Green Treat {Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies} and a cute little Leprechaun.

We were looking for a new chocolate chip cookie recipe and I love them soft. I always check allrecipes.com because of the reviews. I found this one with simple ingredients and tried it out. I simply added about 5 drops of green food coloring for a St Patricks Day treat that was fun for the kids and did it "cookie bar" style by throwing it into a 9x13 pan because I was short on time. They turned out perfect and oh so yummy and soft! They were a hit with everyone- 5 stars in my book!

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies from Allrecipes.com

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups all purpose flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine flour, soda and salt. In another bowl combine sugars, softened butter, shortening, and vanilla. Beat in egg. Gradually add flour mix, add chips. Bake 8-10 minutes or add to greased 9x13 pan and bake 20 min.

AND...... just for fun, here are a few pics of our little cutie.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, don't forget to wear green!

Baby Girl's Zig Zag Quilt

Now that she's almost 8 months old I suppose I should get on the ball and take some pictures of the quilt her Grandma Sheila made. She only asked me for pictures two, maybe three times :) It is beautiful and I am so lucky to have such a talented, wonderful mother-in-law. She even made a matching bib. Since I took some pictures for her I thought I would post them here too. They are so cheery, I hope they brighten your day!

At my doctor appointment today, it was decided to schedule me for induction tomorrow at 5:00 in the morning! So as I finish up a bunch of things around the house I thought I'd do one more pre-baby post of the nursery, we finally hung the curtains today and are all ready to go!

Eggplant Parmesano / Natural Remedies for Labor Induction??

I have had several friends and some sources on the internet say that supposedly Eggplant Parmesan is supposed to help induce labor. Here I am, 4 days till due date still pregnant, so my awesome husband brought home an eggplant and made me this super delicious dish! It's worth a try, right?

I used the recipe found HERE

I have never had Eggplant Parmesano, or eggplant at all for that matter so this was a new "adventure" for me. It was SOOOO good! So good, in fact, I told my husband it was the type of gourmet dish that would tempt me to become a vegetarian! I definitely recommend this dish and for you to check out this recipe over at The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

It's been about an hour since I indulged and I haven't gone into labor yet (ha!) but at least my tummy is full and happy :)

Happy Memorial Day, enjoy your holiday!

Quick & Easy Crafts for the Nursery and a Sneak Peek! Part 2: Easy Scrapbook paper and washi tape banner

After the tissue pom poms (see previous post), I make this super easy banner/ garland? / pendant? / bunting? using scrapbook paper and washi tape. I used my scrap pad of Sarah Jane's Children at Play for girls and some washi tape I bought from Pick your Plum. It took about 10 minutes.

1. So gather your supplies: paper, tape, scissors, and a template for the banner. I just cut one really quick out of a scrap in the size I wanted.

2. Cut out triangles with template. I chose to cut 9. I want to possibly put her name on it but we haven't decided on one yet so this should cover all the names on our list :)

3. Lay out the triangles in whatever order you want. It would also be cute to use just a few papers and repeat the pattern.

4. Roll out your washi tape as long as the triangles plus about 6 inches extra on each side, leaving the sticky side up.
5. Place each triangle on top of the sticky side of tape, halfway up.
6. Fold over the tape evenly at the middle al the way across over itself and the papers.

7. Hang, step back, and enjoy your handiwork!

This is over the changing table and the Children at Play On Parade fabric canvas I made. Love it :)

Quick & Easy Crafts for the Nursery and a Sneak Peek! Part 1: Tissue pom poms

So... it's crunch time. The baby's due in 2 1/2 weeks and there has been 2 simple things I wanted to make for the nursery that I finally got around to doing today. We still need to hang the curtains and are waiting for the handmade quilts from the grandmas (hint, hint) and then it will be complete. So this is kind of a "sneak-peek" :) With my stomach hardening in braxton hicks all day though, she might come before it's done. But let's not get our hopes up :)
The first project was these simple tissue poms. Poofs? Flowers? Whatever they are, I had read all over the internet that they are super simple to make. I followed a tutorial I found on pinterest here:

This was a no cost project for me since I always recycle tissue paper and bows and I had just enough of the colors I wanted, score! I wanted to use these instead of a mobile over the crib. So here is how they turned out:

Before I did this project I considered myself a crafty person, but somehow I managed to botch this "super easy" craft that every one and their dog can do (PINTEREST FAIL!) So don't look too closely!!! I kind of tweaked them a bit till they looked passable and decided that at this point, in between contractions, I just wanted the darn things hung. Done.

I just love the colors and the theme of this nursery, isn't it looking cute?

Come back for part two next!

Quick Baby Sewing Project: Car Seat Cover

Just wanted to pop in quickly to say hello and show off these super cute fabrics my sister in law Karen and I picked out for a car seat cover for the babe.

APT4-1- Candy Carnival Fabric

APT4-15- Pink Scroll Fabric

They are called Candy Carnival and Pink Scroll from Hobby Lobby.

It will be something like this:

They didn't really have these with my first two girls, and I didn't get one with the last baby. So exciting to have all these pretty little things for baby girl and so grateful for all the crafty women in my family!

Have a great week!

Project Nursery: Design and Inspiration

We are expecting our 4th little one in about 3 months so I decided it was about time I started to get things ready! This is our last, or as my mom would say, "the caboose," so I am enjoying all things baby knowing this should be the last time. I can't wait to meet her! However, I am not looking forward to sleep deprivation and all that fun stuff that comes with a new one :) I just keep reminding myself to take it slow and enjoy it.

So here are the things I am decorating the nursery around. (The nursery is actually the spare room/office that I moved all the office stuff to one side and is now a nursery on the other side!) But it is a decent sized room so it works just fine.
The beginning point for this space is this fabric line by Sarah Jane called Children at Play for Michael Miller. This particular set of fabrics in that line is called "playhouse." You may recognize it from when I did the girls room a year ago. I bought one yard and made a few small things and incorporated the colors plus purple, yellow, and green into their room. Since then, however, we decided to put big girl into her own room and little boy moved in with sister. So the perfect cute scheme got all messed up since I did not want my son in a room with anything pink! Anyway, I just love this fabric and can't get enough so I decided to take it and expand further with it for the new little one.
My mom is a quilter and I told her my desire to have a quilt, possibly a pinwheel, made with this fabric. My kind mother has spent so much time and effort into locating all the 12 different fabrics, downloaded the pinwheel pattern, and ordering them all and will soon get started on making this quilt! I am so excited and can't wait to see the finished masterpiece.

Here is the quilt design.

Here is one of the two pillows I made for the girls that is now in the nursery on the rocking chair. This particular fabric is called "On Parade." I bought one yard and made two small pillows, a lamp shade, and a wall canvas, which will all move to the nursery.(See below) (To see the girls room a year ago click on the "source" button underneath.)

I mod podged cut out shapes onto this lampshade on our vintage milk glass lamp.

My "faux canvas" I just hot glued on and hung it on the wall.

I found this one on pinterest- funny someone else had the same idea! And I love the idea of putting her name on it.

I fell in love with this nursery when I saw it, from the colors, to the white window length curtains with a trim of bright color, to the tissue flower poms (poofs?) over the crib, to the sweet alphabet sampler. Perfection. My mom taught me how to cross stitch and I've had an idea in my head for a sampler for my children since I was a teenager- I think I better make it now before my babies are grown!
Sweet P's Nursery - Entrance

I love these banners/pendants/garlands we've seen everywhere for years now but have yet to make one for the kids spaces. (I made one for their dollhouse though!) I can't decided which would be cuter over the crib instead of a mobile- this or the poofs?
Tiny bunting over window

We have white crib bedding (cause I'm way practical like that!) that I still love and has lasted through the last three kiddos. Now that I know I'm having a girl and this is the last hurrah, I bought some Rit dye in fushia for the crib sheet. So we'll have a fun bright pink pop of color. Just for fun :)

Sweet Jojo Designs Isabella Hot Pink Fitted Crib Sheet in Black / White

We have a white changing table like this with baskets with blue gingham liners for all the goodies we need on hand.

I just scored three of these Pottery Barn Teen blue velvet drapes with blackout liners on ebay for a deal!
For my birthday I bought myself this coordinating Children at Play scrapbook paper. I just bought it 'cause I loved it but now that we are doing the nursery with this theme, I want to do some mod podge-ing on an old canvas I was going to throw away- the one that was in the chalkboard frame I just did.

Kind of something like this, but bigger.

So, there you have it! All the fun nursery ideas and projects that are swirling around in my head right now.
Isn't this baby girl so lucky? Actually, I'm the lucky one. :)

Owl and Cherry Blossom Themed Baby Shower {lots of pictures!}

I had the opportunity to throw a baby shower for my sister-in-law. Here is a picture journal of all the things I put together. It was a success and I had so much fun doing it!

The Invitations
Handmade cards and envelopes.

The Decorations
Here is the beginning of the diaper wreath. My sweet mother in law also found a ton of little owls, owl ribbon, cherry blossom stems, fabric, and dishes for the shower.

The Party Favors
I made Owl Cupcakes (using snack size oreos and reeses pieces) then placed them in clear plastic cups with cellophane and topped with handmade tags.

The Table Spread
I forgot to get a close up (darn!) of the popcorn bags I made (seen here in the top right hand corner). I made pink white chocolate popcorn and put it in bags that said "Ready to Pop!"

The finished and hung decorations.

The banner. You can see the tutorial for this here. I found the owl templates on Pinterest and I just printed, cut and glued the letters.
