My Welcome Fall Home 2017

Welcome to my Early Autumn home! We had a very enjoyable Summer around here and I had a hard time letting go. For most of my adult life Fall has been my favorite season. However, having lived most of my life in California and then moving to a place that has what feels like to me Winter nine months out of the year, Summer has become my new favorite. When I started to feel a nip in the air this past week and realized the calendar says this Friday is the first day of Fall, well, I decided to accept the fact that Summer is over. Embracing this, I slowly got out the Fall decorations and put out some simple touches. I'll add Halloween in October, and then replace those with Thanksgiving in November. For now, this is what is looks like around here ~

Come on up on the front porch. I've had this wreath for ages that I bought from Big Lots when I was first married. The faux mums I bought from Family Dollar a couple years ago in a desperate attempt to have something Fall-ish in my pots since I can't get live ones where I live- only once in 6 years did our hardware store carry them. I bought the door mat for our new home this year from Family Dollar and the black pot I just got at Target on clearance for $3! I've been wanting a big black pot for this spot with an outdoor faux plant- still waiting for the plant. But for now the mums will do. We absolutely love our front porch. The kids love to play out here and we like to sit on "Grandma's Bench" and watch the sunset, the trees blow in the wind, and the kids playing.

In my front room/entry I added my handmade fabric pumpins {click for tutorial } from two years ago, an old Target clearance acorn, and some Aspen branches I bought this year from Michael's on sale- 3 stems for $9 and the simple vase was just $3 off the shelf at Walmart. I love the height and drama the stems bring to this space and I love how it's a little more modern and clean look.

Here's the fireplace room- we don't quite know what to call it. Den? Library? Study? Office? I just added an Autumn berry garland I got at Taipan Trading for $5 clearance. Have you ever been into one of those stores? Holy Stuff, Batman. Extra points if you spy our new kitty, Pumpkin.

Here's our dining slash "gathering" room. I found the sign from Hobby Lobby for a third of the price of a very similar one I wanted from Magnolia Market. I might paint it black, I can't decide. These are my living room shelves from the last house, now a china hutch of sorts. We bought the farmhouse dining table for this house but everything else we already had. Very simple decor in here.

And lastly, come sit and relax in our family room! We bought this console table when we bought the dining table. It's filled with old finds and my harvest blessings pillow { click for tutorial }.

I hope you enjoyed my simple Fall tour, as we welcome this season into our home. Let the "pumpkin spice everything" time begin!

Early Fall on the Front Porch {A Few Simple Touches}

Welcome to the beginning of my 2016 Fall Home Tour!

The last two mornings, our family has awoken to thirty degree weather. While the sun is still {thankfully} shining and it is officially turning to Autumn next week, it just felt right to start adding a few rust-colored touches here and there to our home. Here is the front porch- living room and kitchen are next!

Please be sure to check out my following two posts to see the rest of the Fall Home Tour!

Fabric Pumpkins {DIY Easy No Cost Project}

This project has been on my pinterest to-do list since last Autumn. Since we had the day off and needed something to do, I decided the kids could help me do it. They each made 4 pumpkins mostly all by themselves with a little help from me. The pumpkins turned out so cute and it's super fun when you can make something entirely with stuff you already have and don't spend any money.

I followed the tutorials from here and here.

 I just grabbed fabric scraps from my stash in Autumn-ish colors in oranges, blacks and browns and let the kids pick which ones they wanted to use. Each one is different and I love that we made these together and they can play with them and they do double duty as decorations too. I love having meaningful "decor" rather than just junk you buy to fill up space.

I hope you are enjoying your Labor day holiday. Are you doing anything to get ready for the changing season?

Early Fall Decor 2014

Welcome to my place! After my children's urging we finally have the fall decor up. I think they know that pumpkins mean Halloween is around the corner! I like to keep it simple, with a few touches of things I already have, not spending money or tons of time.

Last week when we went on a drive up the mountains I collected these branches to add height to my front porch pots. Fast and free! I love the pop of fall color the flower pots and wreath add to the front of the house. Don't look to closely though, I know the mouldings and trim are in desperate need of repainting. I thought about doing it at the end of the summer but then decided it could wait until spring. There's just too much going on!

Come on in...

 Yes, I moved my furniture around AGAIN! But I swear I will never do it again, we just had to find the right placement and I think we finally nailed it! We have a long narrow room which has been tricky, but we really love this arrangement. It feels so much more "spacious" and I moved the {coffee table} between the sofas so there is plenty of room for playing and "wrestling". I love it so much that I bought a rug to put in front of the sofas cause I am never moving them again!

I found the free fall printable {here} for my burlap clip frame {inspiration and tutorial here}. I simply added some fall berry twigs to my mini boxwood wreath that I got on major sale with free shipping last year {from here}.
  You can see how I made my grain sack stripe pillow covers {here}.

  I love these faux pumpkins you can get at the craft store. I just keep them so I can re-use them year after year.

The rug is the Hampen rug from Ikea {found here} and it was everything I was looking for: relatively cheap, neutral, and shaggy :) The reason I wanted "carpet on carpet" is because we have a no-pile, white berber carpet that gets dirty easily and isn't the most comfy. I think it makes it feel more cozy in here for the upcoming colder months, too. Although it will be for all year 'round.

The lit branches were inspired by Pottery Barn and I got them on after-Christmas clearance at Target last year. The kids love the lights at night. Our {coffee table tray} holds good fall reads ;)

Love the wreath around the antlers! It's the perfect spot. To see my DIY mounted antlers, go {here}.

The only other thing I bought was this new plaid blanket from Ebay for $8, we are always needing more blankets on this couch and I love plaid especially in the fall. I love the way it looks with our fall decor.

A few pictures of the growth chart {we just made} so you can get a better look:

For the table runner I just used some wrapping paper I got in the Target dollar spot a year or two ago around this time of year:

{Chalkboard}.
  I hung a basket on the wall for a "shelf" to display some seasonal loveliness:

  And in my own little corner:

With {one of my favorite scents}:

  We also added a warmer quilt to the bedroom. I love this quilt, it was my "big" gift at my wedding shower.
