The Friday Four Roundup #14

I'm glad it's almost the weekend and that the election is over! Now I can decorate for Thanksgiving and look forward to one of my favorite holidays!

Here are a few of my favorite pins this week:

1: Such a cute idea for a friend gift or even teacher appreciation {source}.

2. I came across this {Christmas home featured in Midwest Living Magazine} I fell in love with and then spent more time than I care to admit checking out the rest of her blog and her beautiful home. I just love this view of her living room and those pillows {source}.

3. I am hoping to get to {this project} soon, I am thinking of using red fabric ribbon to make some pretty Christmas bows this year. I really need to up my game when it comes to wrapping presents, by the time I get to it I am too tired to make them look pretty. I want to change that this year.

4. And a lovely little quote that is a fabulous reminder to count my blessings :)

The Friday Four Roundup #12

1. This week my husband brought home a sack overflowing with apples! Yesterday I made apple bread and muffins and apple butter. I used 7 cups of apples and made a dent in them. I have plans to make apple desserts and more bread next. Did you know you can make apple pie filling and apple crisp ahead of time and freeze it? Also, if you need a good apple bread recipe, I just used my favorite zucchini bread recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook and substituted the apple for zucchini and applesauce for oil.

2. I came across a couple good articles this week, the first one {HERE}. About a mom just trying to find some decent modest shorts for her daughters at Target, and the awesome response she got.

3. The second article about how being a stay at home parent is a luxury for your spouse is {HERE}.

4. On Monday I will be sharing my idea for October's Teacher Appreciation. See ya then!

The Friday Four Roundup #11 {Product Review and a Pinterest Fail}

I you haven't already, make sure to check out my Early Fall tour {here}. I say early because in a few weeks we will need to add some Halloween decor, and then my favorite, Thanksgiving!

1. Speaking of fall, not only did I add some touches to my house, I also found some super cure fall wallpaper for my "electronic devices." I just searched "fall wallpaper for iphone" on pinterest. When you see something you like on your phone you can just touch it and some options will come up and click "save image" which will go straight to your photo album on your phone. Then go to settings and update your wallpaper. Note: I could not save the image in my pinterest app, only if I went on pinterest through safari.

2. After doing a ton of research online and on the Ulta website, I discovered this Loreal true match mineral powder foundation got really great reviews. I decided to give it a try especially since I found that it was cheaper in my shade at Target.com than it was anywhere else, even Walmart. I LOVE it. I have tried BareMinerals for several years and also Loreal true match liquid foundation and this is very comparable to BareMinerals, if not better, and at less than half the price! I do need to use translucent powder to control shine over it, but it really gives a natural look and it so easy to use. (I am not paid to say any of this! All opinions in this post are my own!)

3. PINNED AND TRIED: homemade dry shampoo. After I ran out of my Suave dry shampoo, I decided to try this all natural recipe I found online by simply mixing equal parts baking soda and cornstarch. I found this shaker that was exactly like the one the original blogger used for like a buck. Umm, I don't know if it's just me, but it comes out way too much at a time, and pretty much made me look like I was trying to wear a powder wig. I only did it in a few spots that needed it. I rubbed it in like crazy and finally threw it in a ponytail to cover it because I was in a hurry. By the end of the day, the spots were really itchy and there was major powder under my fingernails from scratching. (gross). So I would say this is a Pinterest Fail. (!) Then I went and bought my beloved Suave dry shampoo. Definitely worth the three and a half bucks!

4. Lastly... "YOU'VE got mail. Those are very powerful words." (Name that movie) My awesome Sis in law Karen was so sweet to send me this mag after I told her I was wanting to read it but couldn't find it anywhere in my very small, very rural town. It really brightened my day. Now, go take a few minutes and go mail someone some love. You'll both be glad you did. And that's all for today's public service announcement.

I hope you have a great weekend! ~ Rebecca

The Friday Four Roundup #10 {Fall Home Decor and Waffle Cookie Recipe}

1. I finally got out the fall decorations! Mostly because my kids kept asking me when we were going to decorate. Here is a sneak peak of an arrangement I made for the front porch:

2. When I had the waffle iron out after I made waffles this week, I decided to get the most use out of it before I put it away and made one of my childhood favorite cookies. Have you ever made cookies with a waffle iron? The kids think it's super fun!

Chocolate Waffle Cookies
1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. margarine, 2 eggs, 2 c. flour, 1/2 c. cocoa, 1/2 c. milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp baking powder. Cream together sugar, margarine and eggs then add the remaining ingredients. Mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto hot waffle iron. Close and bake 1-2 min. Cool completely then frost with icing. (I put about 3 in each square). Makes 3 - 3 1/2 dozen.
Peppermint Icing
1/3 c. margarine softened, 1 1 /2 c. powdered sugar, 1 TB milk, 1/4 tsp pure peppermint extract. Mix together all ingredients until smooth and creamy.

There were some fall home tours this week. It's always interesting to see inside other people's homes and how they decorate and their different styles.

The Friday Four Roundup #9 {Favorite Fall Scents}

We LOVE Fall scents in my house. We wait all year long until Autumn comes so we can spice up the air around here ;)

Here is a small list of our top favorites:

1. Scentsy SPICED BERRIES.
Probably my number one top scent of all time. Right now :) And it works for winter as well.

2. Scentsy COZY FIRESIDE.
It smells just like you would imagine. You just want to curl up with a blanket and appreciate life. Also great for winter.

2. Anything pear. My husband particularly loves this Yankee Candle GOLDEN SPICED PEAR that a lovely friend gave us because she remembered I love anything pear (how sweet is that?). We like to use this one to make the house smell great, and in the kitchen as well.

4. Bath and Body Works SWEET CINNAMON PUMPKIN. This is another all time fave. My hubs and I discovered this on one of our dates at the mall as a newly married couple and fell in love with it and have loved it ever since. Awww. One thing I love about scents is that they can instantly bring back memories. This one always reminds me of fall in our first apartment and then 10+ years of fall memories since then!

Also, pretty much anything Pumpkin from BandBWorks is a winner. And it's so lovely that yummy smelling stuff isn't just limited to wax, we love to break out the festive soap this time of year too!

What are your favorite fall scents? Is it feeling like fall where you live? We still have sun and nice weather, but it is definitely getting chilly nights and mornings here. Have a great weekend!

The Friday Four Roundup #8 {2014 Fall Fashion Edition} And some deals.

Welcome to the 2014 Fall Fashion Edition of my roundup, I hope you had a great week. Are you ready for fall? I am still in the getting ready stage. I wanted to decorate for fall this week now that Labor day is over. However, it is still beautiful sunny weather so I am soaking up every last bit of summer that I can. We have long winters here so I have learned to truly appreciate warm days. In the meantime, I can dream about my perfect fall wardrobe...

1. BASIC SWEATER. I'm loving the idea of a classic, soft, slightly oversized "slouchy" type white cable knit sweater. This one from H&M is pretty much perfect and I like the longer length in the back. Plus H&M is currently offering free shipping on a purchase of $50 or more through the 7th with code 2541.

2. JEANS. Any sweater would look fabulous paired with a great pair of skinnies. I prefer the dark wash on a pair like this, also from H&M. They have buy one pair get one 50% off right now.

3. ACCESSORIES. The obvious choice would be a scarf in warm autumn tones or perhaps a plaid. I don't like to wear something that keeps my neck warm when I'm already wearing a sweater with a high neck line though, so I think it would be fun to try something a little more unexpected like this necklace from Downeast Basics.

And of course you need a great bag. This one with a fun print is anything but boring and I love the brown for fall.

4. BOOTS. Leather knee high or ankle are both great options. I've had my eye on this pair for quite some time. Right now Target has 20% off all their boots.

The Friday Four Roundup {7}

1. Just say no to the ice bucket challenge, Matt Damon explains why. Many countries are without fresh water and here we are dumping it on our head just to see if we can challange our friends to look stupid too. If you really want to make a difference, just donate the money.

2. Ten supposed trending fashions for fall . However I would just say no to blanket coats, cropped pants, and can we PLEASE not go back to overalls?

3. Cute ideas for what to do with all the shells you collected this summer. I especially love the unique necklace idea.

4. What are you doing for your labor day weekend? We are participating in a parade this evening. Lots of sales going on, go check them out!

Enjoy your extended weekend ~ Rebecca

The Friday Four Roundup: Back to School Edition {6}

My girls and I spent the first part of the week day in and out cleaning and organizing their space to get ready for the school year. There is so much more to getting ready than just fulfilling the school supply lists and buying new clothes and shoes! I was determined to complete everything on my wish list without spending any money and we succeeded.

1. An organized closet. Kids need to be able to see their clothes easily so they can put together their outfits every day and find things quickly. We are hoping to eliminate some of this stress by laying out our outfits the night before, but it starts here. We hang all shirts, skirts, dresses and coats/jackets. Pajamas, pants, tights, leggings, underwear, socks, hats, scarves and gloves go in the drawers. Shoes go on the closet floor (I have wire shoe racks coming in the mail from Home Depot, the only thing I bought and have been needing to get for a long time anyway). As a side note, toys go in bins, less frequently used and needing-supervision-toys go up, all other go under their bed. If it sounds like I cram alot into their closet and drawers, I don't. Kids don't need 50 of everything. Some of the best advice I ever got was from a friend who has 5 kids, 4 now teenagers, who told me a major way to simplify life, space, and laundry is to only have 8 shirts, and 4 pants per kid. We have a set for warm weather and cold weather and it has greatly reduced wasted time, money and effort caring for all that extra that we don't need. I only buy what I know they like and will wear. I had them go through everything- rack, drawers and bins- and get rid of anything they don't use or want, then put everything else away nice and organized. Another side note- on top of their dresser is the only space I had to give them a "shelf"- they each have a side and space to put their knick knacks and treasures and they appreciate having their "own space" to display and keep their special things.

2. Tidy homework station. Again, they each have their own space. Boards and clips I made to hang their art and whatnot and plastic drawers to keep their supplies.

3. A place for their backpacks. I'm pretty sure most moms dislike when everyone comes home and dumps their stuff everywhere and throw their backpacks on the floor. We had hooks in the hallway, but even with anchors, they were falling out and destroying the wall (I don't know WHAT they keep in their packs to make them so heavy!) So I took them down and patched the wall. I found some heavy duty over the door plastic hooks I had that weren't being used and the girls helped me decide where to put them. We decided to hang them over the foot of their beds because they are easy to reach and it holds them well.

4. Organized bathroom drawers. This might not be as big of a deal for boys, but for my girls, HAIR is probably the number one reason we are late to school! I asked my girls to empty the bathroom drawers and go through everything, getting rid of old or unused hair stuff. I let them organize it however they wanted with what we had. They decided they each wanted their own drawer and to divide everything up between the two of them. They also decided they would pick out their hair stuff and decide how they are going to wear it the night before along with their outfits in hopes of saving time in the morning and getting to school on time. I was so proud of them for coming up with this idea on their own and will definitely be encouraging them to follow through!

Bonus #5. Chore Charts Lastly, I printed up these free chore charts found {here}, to help keep us all on track!

Happy back to school season, everyone. Have a great weekend!

The Friday Four Roundup {5}

1. We had a great time during our family reunion weekend. I had the chance to go on a hot date with my hubby (thanks, K) to a Brasilian restaurant called Tucano's. My favorite was the bacon wrapped filet minon, and THIS fancy drink, a Rio de Janerio which consists of cream and passion fruit. YUM! I'd never had one before.

2. I'm thinking about getting one of those 3M Command hooks for my front door wreath. The wreath hanger is scratching the paint. I went to their website and they have hooks meant for outdoor use that hold up to 5 pounds. Have you ever used one? I'm wondering how good they work. Anyway, if you are interested, they have a ton of coupons for their products you can print out {here}.

3. If you ever had leftover chocolate frosting you should put it on a graham cracker with some peanut butter. I did this the other day and my husband was like, what are you doing and why have I never seen this before? Cause it's super yum. Try it.

4. I'm kind of sad Summer is coming to an end (10 days till school!) but also ready for fall. I made this summer banner out of cardstock and washi tape a few months ago but never shared it so thought I should before it gets packed up next month.

Have a wonderful weekend. I have my sister in law and 5 nieces and nephews coming to visit, woot! Love the summer cousin bonding time!

The Friday Four Roundup {4}

1. We cheated and made our fall favorite, pumpkin bread. Yes, I know it is still a good month until Autumn begins. We made some "Pumpkin Pie" Croc pot oatmeal from a recipe I got off pinterest (that was disgusting by the way #pinterestFAIL) but it left us with a half can of pumpkin puree so what's a girl to do? My daughter had the cute idea of using their little metal loaf pan from their play set of dishes so they could have thier own little loaf. And we still had enough for two big loaves. YUM and I'm almost ready for fall :)

2. We are getting ready to go on a road trip. There are tons of great ideas on pinterest for helping everyone survive. I found some {here}.

3. The road trip is so we can go do a family reunion. Fun times! Here is a great article with some helpful ideas on building unity in family reunions {here}.

4. Take a look at this cuteness I created! (the tie, not the boy, although he's pretty dang cute too.) Tutorial to come...

Have a fabulous weekend! ~ Rebecca

The Friday Four Roundup {3}

1. My daughter took a cooking class at the art festival this week. My favorite day was when she brought us homemade strawberry jam that she made. Super YUM!

2. I had lots of fun teaching these kids popsicle stick and pipe cleaner art. On Wednesday, we started off by making our own bubble wands and blowing bubbles with a solution recipe I found {here}. (Worked great, don't think I will ever buy bubble solution again! It costs pennies and is so simple).

3. Are you familiar with H&M? It is a European clothing store, I'm assuming that is found at most malls across America now. Did you know H&M sells {homegoods}? I didn't either until I saw someone else pin one of their products on Pinterest. I was like "Whaaaaaaat? How did I not know this?" And their prices are very affordable. Their home products are only online and right now through August 10th they have free shipping with the code: 1991.

4. Speaking of H&M home goods, here is a sneak peak of what I will be sharing with you soon of how I spiced up some of their cushion covers I bought for my sofas. (They were only six bucks. For heavy cotton canvas zippered pillow covers. SIX BUCKS people!) Anyway, stay tuned to find out what I did to make them even better.

Tonight we will be watching my daughters perform and also checking out all the art projects at the open house from this week's art festival. Have a great weekend!

The Friday Four Roundup {2}

I can't believe it's Friday already and then we will be heading into the last week of July! Here are a couple things I've been enjoying this week:

1. My husband and I are cracking down on our carb, dairy, and sugar consumption. Every dinner this week has had very little or no carbs. I have already tried several new recipes, including tonight I made these two-ingredient pancakes; just eggs and bananas, they were amazing! I couldn't believe we were eating pancakes with NO flour! The recipe I followed is found {here}.

2. Speaking of food, one of my favorite stores for kitchen supplies, Williams-Sonoma is having 75% of all their clearance plus free shipping. You know what that means? Good deals on their Summer stuff AND everyone's getting ready to bring out the FALL stuff, my favorite! {yay!} I am in desperate need of some new kitchen towels and have been debating about getting a pack of their signature stripe ones, in the summer "clearance" colors, of course. I know they are pretty good quality. Anyone have experience with them?

3. I am enjoying using this little candle I picked up at Target last month. It is a light summer scent, not too strong and very lovely. You can see their entire line of Illume candles {here}.

4. And lastly, we are getting ready to do two days of Pioneer Days out here. Parades, rodeos, races, food, and lots of fun. This will actually be my first time attending here so I am excited to see what's on the schedule!
Have a fabulous weekend!

The Friday Four Roundup {1}

I am staring a new "series" on my blog called The Friday Four Roundup. I'm hoping this will motivate me to at least post 4 of something every week, especially for our loved ones who are so far away and enjoy the updates :) It might be about family life, current happenings, something that caught my eye, whatever. This week I will indulge the grandparents with some kid cuteness!

Our sweet baby turned one a little bit ago.

My patient mother in law taught me how to cut hair.

The kids are enjoying summer time!

The baby decided to start walking (and climbing. and getting into everything...) around 13 months.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! We are currently enjoying a summer thunder storm and hopefully some cooler temperatures.
