Quick & Easy Crafts for the Nursery and a Sneak Peek! Part 2: Easy Scrapbook paper and washi tape banner

After the tissue pom poms (see previous post), I make this super easy banner/ garland? / pendant? / bunting? using scrapbook paper and washi tape. I used my scrap pad of Sarah Jane's Children at Play for girls and some washi tape I bought from Pick your Plum. It took about 10 minutes.

1. So gather your supplies: paper, tape, scissors, and a template for the banner. I just cut one really quick out of a scrap in the size I wanted.

2. Cut out triangles with template. I chose to cut 9. I want to possibly put her name on it but we haven't decided on one yet so this should cover all the names on our list :)

3. Lay out the triangles in whatever order you want. It would also be cute to use just a few papers and repeat the pattern.

4. Roll out your washi tape as long as the triangles plus about 6 inches extra on each side, leaving the sticky side up.
5. Place each triangle on top of the sticky side of tape, halfway up.
6. Fold over the tape evenly at the middle al the way across over itself and the papers.

7. Hang, step back, and enjoy your handiwork!

This is over the changing table and the Children at Play On Parade fabric canvas I made. Love it :)

Halloween Pinwheel Wreath

Karen made another cute pinwheel wreath, this time for Halloween. She gave us a rundown of the specific products she used if you would like to make this same one. Click on this post to see the original with directions and you can use any paper you like! The possibilities are endless.

Karen writes:
I used black foam core board from the dollar store. I got (3) 11.5" x 1" wreaths out of each board. The paper came from paper cottage. Used my 40% coupon and picked up Black Brads from Hobby Lobby.

The ghost/polka dot was by Pebbles  751328 Ghost Ln.

The dots and numbers was by Pebbles751330 Witchy Ln.

The word paper was by BazzillBasics Hallowords 303998

Super cute! Thanks Karen. What Halloween crafts have you made lately?

Pinwheel Wreath {No. 2} and Wreath Hanging Tip

I decided to update the wreath on the girls door and had been wanting to make the adorable Pinwheel Wreath my sister in law Karen posted here. I followed her tutorial and was very pleased with the result. I am just loving pinwheels! I would love one for Fourth of July in red white and blues - it is so Summery to me. This wreath really compliments the Children on Parade fabric I used in the girls room and the overall look and feel of their room (which you can see here.)
TIP: To hang the wreath, I just cut a ribbon and hot glued it to the back of the wreath, then I hot glued the other end to the top of the door! No one ever sees the top of a door, right? So why not?! Try it!

A Happy Find & Quick Fix {organized scrapbook paper}

Searching for a good, affordable scrapbook paper holder, I found this on Amazon. Kaisercraft Scrapbooking Paper Unit for $15 - priced way below anything else I had seen and it fit my needs and wants perfectly.
It comes flat packed and I used wood glue to make it more sturdy. And I love it!!!
I can't wait to get started on my favorite craft: cardmaking! It's been WAY too long.

Easy Homemade Paper Flag Banner Garland {no cost}

I promise I am not teasing you about the girl's room - I will post pictures soon! I just have a few more projects to finish up and I don't want to put up pictures until it's ALL done.

In the meantime, here is a fun, quick, easy project anyone can do!

I whipped this up in a half hour. For this project you will need: scrapbook paper, yarn, a stapler, scissors, ruler, pencil, and homemade template.
To save paper and time, I figured the easiest way was to cut the paper in half so you have 6" x 12" pieces. I wasnt sure how many papers I would need to cover the length so I attatched them first, then cut the triangle out of the bottom.
I attatched them by simply folding the paper over the yarn (I eyed it) and stapling 3 times across the fold.
Then I made a 6" x 12" template from recycled cardboard that came in the scrapbook package and using a ruler and pencil made a triangle on the bottom and cut it out. I then traced this onto each flag and cut them out. I tacked them to the walls with tacs and it was perfect! I love how it will be able to be used again and again!

Paper Pinwheel Wreath

My S-I-L loves Spring and is here today sharing this super adorable Pinwheel Wreath.

Hi! Thanks for letting me share today. I love 2 sided scrapbook paper and almost had to pinch myself when I saw the idea for this wreath. So let’s get started!

1. Cut (12) 5" x 5" squares of your favorite 2 sided scrapbook paper.

2. Measure in 2 1/2" from each corner toward the middle.

3. Cut the lines on the squares. This will leave the middle of the square uncut.

4. Take the left corner of each square and glue it to the middle of the square. Repeat with all the corners.

5. Place your wreath on the counter. Mine is 12” and is cut from foam core board.

6. Arrange your pinwheels and make sure they look great.

7. Glue your pinwheels on going around the wreath and kind of tucking them under each other as you go.

8. Glue a button to the center of each pinwheel.

9. Add a ribbon or a cloth to hang and enjoy.

Happy Spring it’s only 3 days away – but who’s counting?

PROJECTS Week of July 4th: baby shower preparation

This has nothing to do with the shower, but I made some homemade blackberry jam for the 1st time.
SOO GOOD!

My 2 awesome friends are throwing me a baby shower tomorrow. I am so excited! It has been over 5 years since my last one and this time everything will be BLUE instead of PINK! I put together little bags for each of these hostesses to show my appreciation.
Here is a quick project I did with the leftover foam board I used for my chore chart to make them each a monogram wall cutie.
Supplies: foam board, monogram letters printed from computer, scrapbook paper, fabric, scissors, glue gun.

I cut two 6" squares and covered the front with fabric. On the backside, hot glue the corners down first, then the sides. Then I glued a small piece of ribbon for the hangers and a scrapbook paper square a little smaller than 6" to make it look nice on the back.

Then using my printed letters as stencils I put them over the scrapbook paper of choice and cut out the letters. I mounted them with foam mounting tape and VOILA! Done.

My next endeavor was chocolate cake balls for party favor thank you's for all the lovelies who will be attending tomorrow. Apparrently these are the newest thing and I've seen them all over blogland although I had never actually had one.
I used a basic chocolate cake from scratch from the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, chocolate frosting, and chocolate almond bark. I mixed the directions from here and here to my liking.

Here is the "dough" as I scooped the balls.

I used two little appetizer forks I had for dipping.

And here is the result! They're not as pretty as some, I need more practice, but I was pleased with the results. They taste pretty good, too!

These are all the leftover balls! It made 55 total, so I froze the rest.

Here is my adorable tag for the favors.

Finished product!

Have a great weekend and stay posted for pics from the shower!!!
